Banfi Vintners

Château Tanunda is Australia's oldest and grandest Château. Established in 1890, it is located at the very heart of the BAROSSA VALLEY - Australia’s most famous premier wine growing region - and is a cornerstone of the Barossan wine industry.  A heritage Australian icon, and first growth Château, the estate is the home of the first vines planted in the Barossa Valley in 1845.

The majestic blue stone building with beautiful surrounding gardens and vineyards is a truly awe-inspiring place to visit and is as magnificent as some of the best wine estates around the world.

The Geber family, who are proud custodians of this great icon and its heritage, continue a century-old tradition of fine winemaking. Our house style is classic and refined, combining both traditional and modern wine making to make superb handcrafted wines of complexity and intensity.

Intense deep red in color, with lifted aromas of red berry fruit and spice. The palate is soft and supple, yet elegant with plenty of upfront fruit flavor and length. Hints of exotic spices and pepper marry with vanillan oak and a Barossan earthiness on the long lingering finish. Beautifully balanced tannins derived from 18 months in American and French oak complement the luscious fruit and give the wine added complexity.

A superb handcrafted wine of complexity and intensity. Deep garnet red in color, displaying complex aromas of blackberry, spice, plum and licorice that give way to a subtle integration of smoky, vanillin oak. The palate is full of fleshy dark cherry and bramble fruit with dark chocolate nuances and savory notes of leather and spice on the finish. This wine has excellent tannin structure and balanced acidity.

The Château, 100 Year Old Vine Shiraz

Eleven rows of old vines reputed to be 120 years have survived the elements. These low-yielding vines give rise to superior, bold and impressive flavored fruit. The classic Barossa regional characters of dark, spicy plums are all complimented by the subtle vanillin tones of American oak that lengthens the palate of the wine. A superior wine with luxurious silky fine grained tannins. Average production is 800 bottles- only in a good vintage year. We recommend cellaring for 10 years. "Taste 100 years of Barossa history"
