Concha Y Toro Awarded the Drinks Business Green Award

LONDON, UK, FEBRUARY 2010 Concha y Toro, the pre-eminent name in quality Chilean wines, made a strong showing at The Drinks Business’ inaugural 2010 Green Awards program when it took first prize for ´Logistics & Supply Chain Green Initiative Wine,´ at a recent awards ceremony in London, The award recognizes successful new initiatives designed to significantly reduce and improve a companys impact on the environment within the past 12 months.

Winning strategies implemented by Concha y Toro focused on minimizing the companys carbon footprint through the overall reduction of greenhouse gases. Initiatives included a transition to lighter bottles for Concha y Toros best-selling Sunrise and Frontera brands in the UK, a move that took effect in October 2009. New bottle designs, developed for Concha y Toro by Cristaleras Chile, use less glass, representing a decrease in weight ranging from 7% to 14%, as well as a reduction of energy usage in the production process. Further benefits derive in the form of reduced fuel consumption in shipments to overseas markets.

It is a valued recognition from within our industry of the positive impact that Concha y Toro can make in environmental terms, especially in light of the volume that Concha y Toro generates.”
