POSITION STATEMENT

The Director of Public Relations (DPR) is Banfi Vintners’ key PR driver and representative for all brands and strategic marketing programs, with an emphasis on integrating publicity, events, and press in support of brand pillars and priorities. The role requires building relationships with wine and lifestyle press and being seen as a key, respected and active participant in press events. The DPR will consult and work with the family’s publicist in executing any press opportunities utilizing the family, but will lead the project when initiated by the DPR.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain direct contact with leading wine, lifestyle, travel and business press in US to promote key Banfi messages with an emphasis on press in Manhattan.
- Focus on larger picture messages about Castello Banfi, Banfi Vintners and Concha y Toro.
- Be the go-to expert and strategic/creative inspiration for the Marketing-Communications team’s public relations program development, working in partnership with Marketing – Communications leadership.
- While DPR has no direct reports, the DPR mentors and guides the PR Manager, and utilizes this important resource as appropriate, and likewise is a resource to same.
- Identify, leverage and manage outside PR resources to maximize their benefit to the goals of the company
- Work closely, and share expertise with family management, peers in communications, marketing, ambassadors and the family communications publicist.
- Oversee and participate in all public relations functions within the purvue of wine brands, marketing and producer visits, including the following:
- Generate press communication strategies within the marketing framework.
- Manage communications tactics (including press releases and pitches) based on company priorities and in conjunction with marketing integration director and brand teams.
- Identify sponsorships and other alliances and opportunities that support communications efforts, within the budget and timing framework.
- Maintain resources and logs for press and public message dissemination.
- When and where appropriate to the role, represent producers and products at events.
- Lead processes that create, assemble and distribute media-related collateral material, including press kits and reprints.
- Develop media opportunities for all Banfi Vintners brands with press in the US. When needed, coordinate individual and group press visits to Banfi-owned and supplier wineries, traveling with organized press trips if needed, sometimes assisted by other publicists/ambassadors within Banfi..
- Develop and manage media programs and press campaigns, including US tours by winery representatives by travelling with those representatives as needed.
- Directly handle or coordinate the handling of all press inquiries of all brands in an appropriate manner consistent with brand priorities and brand profiles.
- Develop press contacts and maintain an active and effective press, event and partner list.
- Travel as required (Maximum approximate domestic and international travel 6-8 weeks per year, including weekends, holidays and evenings as needed.)
- Attend special press events and individual press meetings (which will require out-of-office attendance primarily in New York City, approximately 60-100 days/evenings throughout the year.)

Position is based in NYC metro area with use of a desk at headquarters in Old Brookville when needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

- 4 year college degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or wine/hospitality related field, minimum of 5 years of communications work experience, and/or minimum of 8 years wine industry experience.
- Experience and familiarity pitching wine/beer/spirits, travel, luxury goods media helpful.
- Strong communicative skills.
- Honesty and integrity.
- Must be able to garner respect of associates, management, press, customers and field representatives.
- Must be adept at comprehending messages and circumstances and putting them into easy-to-understand terms that express the most positive slant and imagery. This includes the ability and confidence to apply business and social judgment when limited information/data is available.
- Excellent written communication skills. Incumbent must possess the ability to develop and provide all necessary written news releases, features as well as both formal and informal business correspondence and presentations necessary to satisfy job requirements.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills. Incumbent must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from journalists in specialized sectors, or be able to provide that information in short order through management.
- Ability to discern and effectively communicate the views and positions of all stakeholders in the process, including wine producers, marketers and management.
- Ability to discern and effectively respond to the needs of co-workers, journalists and members of the trade.
- Strong managerial, leadership and teamwork skills with the ability to work well with colleagues in related areas of sales, marketing and administration, and bring out best in them.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, with passion for the food and wine industry, Banfi, and the producers.
- Knowledge of wine production/sales/education and hospitality industry.
- Ability to think creatively to solve problems and to apply knowledge to new situations.
- Proficiency with PC and Microsoft Office Word is critical to the success of this position.
- Independent Worker – Must be able to perform job responsibilities without daily supervision.
- Ability to handle concurrent tasks
- Multi-language skill beyond English is helpful.
- Ability and willingness to live in or commute to central Nassau County, NY, and flexibility for eventual occasional domestic and international travel.
- Ability to formulate and work within a budget.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current valid driver’s license.
- No DWI/DUI offenses.
- No Drug use
- Residence - NYC
- Overnight travel required – Domestic and International – Approximately 28 days/annually
