Argentina’s Trivento Select Debuts in U.S.
(Mendoza, Argentina – September 2005) Trivento Select, a new line of wines from Argentine producer Trivento Bodegas y Vinedos, has been launched in the US. Trivento’s terroir is enhanced by the three seasonal winds that caress the vineyards, creating a rare confluence of characteristics in the soil and microclimate. Four distinctive varietals, fully reflecting their high-altitude and windy climate, have been crafted in an approachable style, rich with fruit and perfectly structured for food:

Trivento Select Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby in color. Aromas of ripe black fruit and red berries, like plums and raspberries, characterize the nose. Barrel aging adds tobacco and chocolate notes. An ideal match for roasted lamb and barbecued meats.

Trivento Select Syrah has an alluring nose of violets and cassis. Intense red in color, the wine is smooth and velvety on the palate with supple tannins. It offers rich fruit flavors complemented by spice notes. Aged in American and French oak for 5 to 7 months, it is perfect for braised beef or lamb as well as for Mediterranean fare.

Trivento Select Malbec is aged in medium toasted French oak, which adds vanilla aromas and supple tannins to the wine’s rich berry flavors. Just right for hearty stews and grilled meats.

Trivento Select Chardonnay combines distinctive varietal character with judicious oak aging to deliver rich banana and crisp apple flavors complemented by toast notes. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak for two months. Well suited for seafood and white meats.

The wines, all from the 2004 vintage, will retail for approximately $15.00 per 750ml bottle, available nationally by October 2005. They are exclusively represented in the US by leading fine wine importer Banfi Vintners.

Trivento owns vineyards in the best zones around Mendoza chosen specifically for their ability to produce superb fruit that distinctively expresses each variety. Mendoza also offers a relatively unique opportunity for high-altitude viticulture. Large swings in temperature, sun-bathed days and cool nights, in the semi arid climate reduce the risk of pests and disease in the vineyards ensuring the healthiest of harvests. The vineyards receive barely 8 inches of rainfall a year so the drip irrigation systems are fed with melting waters channeled down from the Andes. Stony soils drain off excess water and maintain vineyard growth and yield in balance.

The name “Trivento” reflects the three winds that sweep through the vineyards giving the grapes their unique character. The icy Polar wind invades the vineyard in winter. Cold forces the sap deep within the vines. The Zonda wind rushes down off the Andes from the West. Racing across open furrows, its warmth envelops each plant rousing the dormant sap to supply new, spring growth. The third wind, the Sudestada, comes from the East in summer. Fresh yet humid, it gives the grapes a respite from the searing sun and tempers berry ripening.

Trivento was founded in 1996 by the leading Chilean producer Concha y Toro. The chief winemaker is Federico Galdeano. He received his degree in enology in 1988 in his native Mendoza and worked for eleven years with two top premium and sparkling wine producers before joining Trivento for the 1997 harvest. He has experienced harvests both in Tuscany and in the Napa Valley. "Deciding just when to harvest is crucial,” says Galdeano. “Maturity determines aroma, the alcohol content, tannins, acidity, balance and the very particular personality of Argentine wines"
