Stonehaven Vineyards has become the first winery in Australia’s prestigious Limestone Coast region to obtain official certification of ISO 14001, an international rating which assesses production processes under the environmentally conscious standards established by the European Community’s ISO (International Standard Organization) in 1996. The certification indicates true commitment to environmental principles.
Stonehaven was recognized for developing an environmental protection system for its Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and Padthaway vineyards totaling 1,967 acres that meets the strict standards established by the ISO. ISO 14001 certified organizations must meet five criteria:
1. Implement, maintain, and improve an environmental management system.
2. Assure itself of its conformance with its stated environmental policy.
3. Demonstrate such conformance to others.
4. Seek certification and registration of its environmental management system by an external organization.
5. Make a self-determination and self-declaration of conformance with the International Standard.
“We are committed to our environmental responsibilities,” said Stonehaven’s Coonawarra Vineyard Manager, Shane Mills, “and the ISO14001 accreditation is an internationally recognized standard that acknowledges that commitment.”
Located in South Australia’s prestigious Limestone Coast region, which is characterized by a bedrock of limestone and rich terra rossa soil that is ideal for growing grapes, Stonehaven winery produces two distinct tiers of regional varietals: a premium Shiraz, Chardonnay, Merlot and Shiraz/Cabernet blend, all from the South Australia appellation; and a Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from within the more restricted and esteemed Limestone Coast region. Grape sources for Stonehaven wines include more than 2,200 acres of prime vineyards in several, distinct and diverse microclimates located throughout South Australia.
Represented exclusively in the US by the nation's leading wine importer, Banfi Vintners, Stonehaven premium wines retail for approximately $5.99 - $6.99 for a 750ml bottle and about $9.99 - $10.99 for 1.5 liter bottle. The Limestone Coast tier sells for around $12.99 - $13.99 and is available in 750ml bottles only.
