A Top 100 Best Buy of 2005
- Wine Enthusiast - 31 December 2005

“Simple, straightforward wine with light body and dark fruit. A party red.”
- Frank Sutherland - The Tennessean - 16 November 2005

“It’s hard to imagine getting a better red wine for five bucks, which makes this one of the best Best Buys out there. On the mark at all check point, with ripe cherry and plum flavors and a clean, smooth finish. Surprisingly solid.”   86 BEST BUY

“You won’t find an inexpensive claret from Bordeaux this good, because the prices in France have gone up so much. Unfortunately, you won’t find many from Chile either, because vintners there don’t seem to make many of them. This deeply colored Cabernet has a fine nose of cassis, berry and mint, and on the palate, surprisingly complex flavors of black/red berry fruit seasoned with toasted oak from barrel aging. This will go well with lamb, beef, stews and roasted poultry. It’s $8 or less for a magnum.”

“You won't find an inexpensive claret from Bordeaux this good, because the prices in France have gone up so much. Unfortunately, you won't find many from Chile either, because vintners there don't seem to make many of them. But as this wine shows, Chile has great potential for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, particularly in this price range, which Bordeaux and California have totally abandoned. This deeply colored Cabernet has a fine nose of cassis, berry and mint, and on the palate, surprisingly complex flavors of black/red berry fruit seasoned with toasted oak from barrel aging. This will go well with all classic Bordeaux/Cabernet matches, such as lamb, beef, stews and roasted poultry. At $8 or less for a magnum, it's almost too good to be true.”
- Ben Giliberti - The Washington Post - 16 March 2005

“. . . a fantastic bargain. It proves that not all wine need be aged in oak barrels nor be expensive to be enjoyable. Stylistically very different from similarly priced, often flamboyant wines from Australia, it is more like a French wine, restrained yet full of flavor. It speaks instead of shouts.”
- Michael Apstein - Boston Globe - 10 March 2005

“. . .a very drinkable 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. . .The Cabernet, for the price, is generous, ripe and balanced. There is a slight earthiness to the fruit, but nothing funky or off-putting.”
- Paul Gregutt - The Seattle Times - 23 February 2005

Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

"Best Buy - Dusty cherry and chocolate aromas are uplifted by some flowery notes. Flavors of cassis, raspberry and mild buttery oak make for a correct, pleasant palate. Some additional butter and vanilla flavors are detectable on the finish."   85
- Wine Enthusiast - December 2002

"...has appealing dark berry, plum and black cherry flavors and a soft finish."
- Robert Neralich - Arkansas Democrat Gazette - September 2002

"The red, plum-colored wine offers aromas of dried fruit and currants... a satisfying, straightforward wine with flavors of dried fruit with hints of oak. It had a quiet, pleasant finish with faint spiciness."   85
- The Wine Report (Atlanta) - September 2002

Cabernet Sauvignon 2000

"The peppery, fruit and crowd-pleasing style is at once smooth and savory."
- Andrea Immer's Wine Buying Guide for Everyone

"...smooth, silky and well-balanced, with rich berry highlights. It's great for the price."
- William S. "Sandy" Kaplan - Times (LA) - February 2001

"Medium-bodied, light complexity, dry, balanced acidity, little or no oak, a hint of tannins. Color: Deep purple. Aromas: Blackberry, rhubarb, weedy. Flavors: Herbal, peppery, tobacco. Other Descriptors: Juicy, masculine."
- WineToday.com - January 2001

Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

"Deep, purple in color with good legs, this wine has a big green bell-pepper nose with some hints of cedar. It has good body and a silky mouthfeel, and delivers flavors of bell pepper and spice with notes of dried figs. There's a little tartness as well. The flavors linger on the palate. It has a good finish with some spice."
- TableWine.com - January 2001

"Cassis, chocolate and blackberry aromas, with a hint of toasted oak. Very nice black raspberry and cocoa flavors through to the finish, with nice tannins."
- Santé - Holiday 2000

"At six bucks, we'd take a tasty mouthful of fruit without complaint, but Walnut Crest takes it further, offering a peppery, varietally correct cabernet with enough tooth to grapple with a flank steak. A by-the-case buy."
- Wine & Spirits - June 2000

Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

"If you're looking for a bargain red to buy by the case, this is your wine. A soft but rich Cabernet from Chile."   87 - Best Buy
- Wine Spectator

"This soft-textured Cabernet from Chile has plenty of up-front appeal, with rich, dense, forward flavors of black currant and plum, and a price tag that makes it a good choice when the occasion calls for multiple bottles."
