Fumaio 2006

This pick is a grocery store standout - a great value, easy to find and inexpensive. The color is truly silver and white, almost clear. The aroma is of citrus and pleasant fruit. The taste is crisp and clean with a hint of rich fruit character. It's a universal chill-out white.

Today's wine of the week is a not-too-common blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc - 50 per cent of each, but the more aromatic citrus (particularly grapefruit) of the Sauvignon dominate the nose and the palate. The Chardonnay's part in the blend is to give some rich roundness to the wine, which opens up the choices of food pairings. Apart from the usual fish, seafood and shellfish that sauvignon loves, try this wine with cheeses that are up to medium-strong - you'll be surprised how well it handles itself.   Wine of the Week
