Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Luscious black fruit and sweet pepper on the nose. Spicy tannins with vanilla extract make a firm, gripping finish. Blue cheeses; bacon; fatty beef, like rib eye.
- SANTÉ - June 2007

One of Maipo’s best Cabernets, this delivers ripe red fruit with complex herbal notes. Built for game.   92
- Wine & Spirits - 1 June 2007

"Beautiful stuff, if you're wavering over spending $30 for a Chilean red. The Terrunyo line is focused on matching specific terroir or 'character of the soil' (which is what the name means in Spanish) to grape varieties. In this case the Cab is drawn from the Las Terrazas block, hand-harvested within the home estate's old Pirque vineyards. This is big, complex Cabernet Sauvignon, still young and capable of some years of aging, showing black currant, dark chocolate, roast lamb and lead pencil characteristics, with a robust tannin that will mellow with time."
- Dan Kislenko Hamilton Spectator (Ontario) - 06 January 2007

"From Chile comes a terrific Cabernet crafted in a compellingly savoury, elegant Bordeaux style. Concha y Toro Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 is proof - if you needed any - that Chile is much more than a land of bargain wines. Black currant and cedar combine with herbs and an impressive mineral character in this well-balanced red. It should develop nicely for five years or so and would go well with roast beef."
- Beppi Crosariol - Toronto Globe & Mail - 06 January 2007

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

"A huge expression of Chilean Cab, which if you know the wine, is to be expected. Terrunyo pushes deep blackberry and violets on the nose, while the palate bursts with acidity that propels lasting dark flavors. On the spot, with a lot of heft and extraction."   91 Editor's Choice
- Wine Enthusiast - July 2006

“Restrained but very focused Cabernet, with red currant, black cherry and loam flavors running along sweet, fine-grained tannins. Racy and pure through the finish, where a nice mineral streak accompanies the fruit. Drink now through 2008.”   92
- Wine Spectator - 31 May 2006

“Firm, with good character and length. Up to 2008.”   ****
- Decanter - February 2006

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

“Full and leathery, with tobacco and lots of familiar dark-fruit aromas. The palate seems almost jet-propelled in its forwardness, while the flavors of prune, black cherry, pepper and chocolate are fine. Could stand for a bit more mouthfeel and plushness; the tannins run hard.”   88
- Wine Enthusiast - 1 November 2005

“Stylish and concentrated, with ripe black currant and raspberry fruit offset by suave toast and mineral notes that emerge on the finish. Sweet and fleshy, yet defined and focused throughout. Contains some Carménère, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2008.”   90
- Wine Spectator Online - 1 July 2005

“Expressive, balanced stuff from this revealing terroir project. Nice blackcurrant and toasty oak aromas. Nice, sweet, concentrated palate, good fruit, oak, tannin balance. Good wine. Up to 5 years.”   * * * * Highly Recommended Best New Releases

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

“Very solid briar-, blackberry- and currant-filled Cabernet here, with mineral and loam notes as well.  Thick, cocoa powder-coated tannins on the finish, so let this stretch out in the cellar first.  Best from 2005 through 2008.”   91
- Wine Spectator - 31 August 2004

"This luscious Cabernet makes you think that the Stag Leap District came to the Maipo Valley and dropped off a few secrets before heading home. Gorgeous leather and black fruit mix on the burly nose, which is backed up by lead pencil, tobacco and cassis."   92
- Wine Enthusiast - March 2004

"The fruit for this fragrant Cabernet grows in a block of old vines in Pirque.  Ignacio Recabarren makes the wine in an elegant style, its firm and athletic texture less generous than the Marques from Puente Alto.  Pirque’s sharp tannins give a fine structure filled with cinnamon and clove scents and ripe red cherry flavor. Towards the end, the acidity brings a lovely freshness.  A match for filet mignon."    91
- Wine & Spirits - January/February 2004

"Good depth from beginning through to a long length. Multi-dimensional, showing good harmony and ability to age 2-5 years. Highly recommended."   ****
- Decanter - June2003

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2000

“Pure Alto Maipo character shows in the spiciness and black currant flavors of this Cabernet from a terraced vineyard planted above a steep bank of the Maipo River.  Surprisingly rich and concentrated for an abundant harvest like 2000, this red is defined by its ripeness and the solid architecture of tannins and acidity, all in a seductive balance.”   90
- Wine & Spirits - October 2004

“Medium to full bodied, smooth, and supple with bold fig, berry, and cherry flavors; very well made.”  Duck breast. Serve now, but will hold for some time.
- Santé - October 2004

"Dark and deeply concentrated, with great intensity but also soft feel and a smooth finish thanks to perfect Maipo tannins."
- Michael Franz - The Washington Post - 28 January 2004

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

"Presented with elegance and restraint, this has a floral scent of violets, then a firm juiciness of black currants that arcs across the palate and lasts.  A spicy, intense character in the finish adds to the complexity, extending the flavor and power of the fruit.  Approachable now, this will only get better over the next six to eight years." 92  Best Cabernet Sauvignon
- Wine & Spirits - Buying Guide 2004 - October 2003

"Full bodied and rich but firm with ripe blackberry and hints of mushrooms, black olive, tobacco and green pepper; balanced finish."
- Sante - September/October 2003

"...has complex dark currant, plum, blackberry and black cherry flavors accompanied by hints of spice, mocha and vanilla-oak, supple tannins and a persistent finish."
- Robert Neralich - Arkansas Democrat Gazette - 6 August 2003

"Crimson-black hue.  Aromas of rhubarb, blackberry, smoke and mocha.  Roasted, earthy flavors of plum, blackberry, mocha, cedar and tobacco.  Dry close."  87
- The Wine News - August/September 2003

"Ignacio Recabarren crafted this wine from mature vines, grown in alluvial soils of rock and sand to yield a pure black currant cabernet. Presented with elegance and restraint, this has a floral scent of violets, then a firm juiciness of black currants that arcs across the palate and lasts. A spicy, incense character in the finish adds to the complexity, extending the flavor and power of the fruit. Approachable now, this will only get better over the next six to eight years."   92
- Wine & Spirits - December2002

"Packed and muscular, with smoke, brier, loam and dark currant flavors that are still sorting themselves out. The tannins are thick, but ripe, so let this meld in short term cellaring. Best from 2003 through 2005."   90
- Wine Spectator - November2002

"Coffee and burnt toast dominate the nose, courtesy of 50% aging in new French oak. But this is no woodman's delight. Quite the opposite: it's perfectly balanced and packed full of sweet cherries and plums. Best of all, the mouthfeel is undeniably creamy. Deeply extracted, with lots of muscle."   90
- Wine Enthusiast - March2002

"...a complex, sophisticated wine, one that's richly flavored yet smooth. Since this wine isn't filtered before bottling, those who choose to cellar it will find sediment accumulating in the bottle over time. The Cabernet Sauvignon, because it is supple and full-flavored, pairs with a variety of meats and poultry, from prime rib to Cornish game hen roasted with full-flavored herbs."
- Bob Hosman - News-Times

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

"...fine berry fruit and toast..."   86

Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

"Now this is a great wine! Start with a deep, intense ruby-red color and mix with tobacco and cedar aroma, then add berry flavors. A very elegant Cabernet and well worth the price!"
- William S. "Sandy" Kaplan - Times (Lafayette, LA) - March2002

"Deep, saturated ruby-garnet hue. Complex lead pencil, mineral, and leather aromas. A firm entry leads to a moderately full-bodied palate with great varietal intensity and a taut, balanced structure. Very Bordeaux-like. Best with near-term cellaring."   91
- Beverage Testing Institute - 2002

"Woodsy aromas of earth, tomato leaf and mineral. Full bodied with juicy flavors of plum and prune."   85
- The Wine News - April/May 2001

"Vibrant ruby red and bursting with aromas of berries and ripe plum, this well-structured, medium-bodied red is wonderful with roasts, chops and grilled Portobello mushrooms."
- Sally Belk King - Style Weekly Magazine - March2001

"...has a vibrance and a layered flavor of dark cherries, sour cherries and a stony, wholesome earthiness. So supple, it coats the mouth with bright flavor and a dry, chewy texture, then the flavors slowly drip down the throat with a glowing persistence. This has the inner strength to age gracefully."   92
- Wine & Spirits - February2001

"...very smooth and subtle, providing vegetal notes followed by black pepper and plum. It is a touch sharp on the close, but this will no doubt pass with time. Let it lay a year or two and bloom."   ***+
- WinesReview.com - November2000

"...is an excellent example of Chilean Cabernet, made even better by the addition of small measures of Merlot and Carmenere, then finished for 10 months in French oak. It's smoky and rich with berry aromas and flavors, supported by firm tannins and good acidity. This is a [wine] with length and character that will only get better."
- Gerald Boyd - San Francisco Chronicle - October2000

"...plenty of cassis, currant and cedar flavor here, in a ripe and polished package. Shows nice elegance on the finish despite its obvious weight."   88
- Wine Spectator - October2000

"The flavor is like the concentrated essence of wild berries (huckleberries, raspberries), with a velvety-plush texture and seductive sweet spice-cola scents."
