Trivento - The Three Winds
Our winery is named after the three winds that sweep through our vineyards, giving our grapes their unique character.
The icy Polar wind invades the vineyard in winter. Cold forces the sap deep within the vines. Pruning begins to encourage renewed growth.
The Zonda wind rushes down off the Andes from the West. Racing across open furrows, its warmth envelops each plant rousing the dormant sap to supply new, spring growth.
The third wind, the Sudestada, draws in from the East, fresh yet humid, in summer. It gives our grapes respite from the searing sun and eases berry ripening.
Fruit of the wind, our grapes flourish and ripen to nature's beat. Nature provides the soul, while we merely make the wine.
History
Many factors contribute to making Argentina an ideal country for wine production. Diverse regions afford it distinct climates and soils that yield exceptional crops of a great variety of grapes. This was not the only factor motivating Concha y Toro to set up business in Argentina. The winery also wished to produce a new range of wines abroad deploying its know-how, technology and export distribution capacity.
Mendoza was chosen for this particular plan and in 1996 Trivento Bodegas y Viñedos was formed with the goal of producing the best possible wines for international markets. The decision demanded purchasing vineyards and lands in the best zones the province had to offer. The grape varieties to be planted was the critical factor when assessing each zone. Today its vineyards in three different areas, Maipú, Tupungato and Rivadavia, total 540 ha.
Trivento employs Concha y Toro's production, business and international experience to produce the best wines Argentina can provide. As a result, since 1997 Concha y Toro has been able to complement its own range with distinctive Argentine wines such as Malbec and Bonarda that are marketed in Europe, America and also in Asia under the brand name Trivento.
